Why should you consider Kent as a business location? - Kent Science Park

Offering an idyllic blend of coast, countryside and city, it is no wonder that people choose to call Kent home, but the Garden of England is also an extremely popular business location too.

Inward investment agency, Locate in Kent, revealed in the Kent Property Market Report 2020 that there was a 57% rise in London-based businesses looking at commercial property in Kent in the three months to 31 July 2020, year-on-year. This shows that in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses are seriously considering moving their offices or commercial space to the county.

With this in mind, we have compiled some of the key reasons why you should consider relocating your business to Kent.

Connectivity

The county benefits from some of the best transport links in the UK, which is great for businesses. It has a strong road network, in fact the county has more motorways by distance (107 miles) than any other county.

With high-speed rail services, journey times to London are typically under an hour within the county. This means that those businesses considering relocating from London can feasibly get back to the capital for meetings without it taking the whole day. For those with operations on the continent, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, Port of Dover and Eurostar, means Europe is also within easy reach.

The county also offers digital connectivity, with 92% of homes and businesses within Kent and Medway having access to superfast broadband.

Cost-saving

Kent commercial property costs are up to 60% cheaper than London, which is a huge incentive for potential re-locators. That said there is no need to compromise on the choice of space, as whether you’re looking for co-working, office, industrial, manufacturing or laboratory space, there is plenty to choose from.

Thanks to major further education institutions nearby, including the University of Greenwich (Medway Campus), Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Kent, businesses in Kent also have access to a highly-skilled talent pool. Yet hiring staff is more affordable, with the median salary being £28,500 compared to £2,500 in Greater London.

Innovation and collaboration

The county is home to a community of innovators and collaborators, across a wide range of different sectors. Being surrounded by like-minded companies can be great for the growth and development of your business.

Networking events put on by organisations like the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, bring the business community together, and provide an opportunity to learn from each other. There is also plenty of support and funding within the county for growing businesses.

Kent Science Park is one of the leading business locations within the county and offers a wide range of commercial space for start-ups right up to multi-national organisations.
